Our Inuit Workforce Stands Out

17 mai 2021

In March 2020, the Nunavik Public Health and Public Safety authorities asked us to return to their homes all our employees who live in Nunavik communities. It is only since September that a return to work has been authorized. We would like to thank our Inuit employees for their understanding, and we are more than happy to have them back with us! Since their return to work, our Inuit employees have had several successes, including:

First group that received training to drive a class 1 semi-trailer truck, with trainer Francis Noel.

William Arreak
Joseph Angnatuk
Kevin Kristensen
Stacy Sakiagak (Raglan)
Matthew Niviaxie
Mathew Angnatuk
David Saunders-Kudluk

Participants in the second group of the same training were:

Charlie Annahatak
Julia Emataluk
Piari Nappaaluk
Jonathan Simard
Allie Kasudluak (Raglan)

''I started training William & Matthew since June 2019, my mandate was to put together a program with the goal of them both becoming heavy equipment operators, for the surface service department. I then developed a program based like a school DEP except that we do actual work that is useful to the department. When they finish, they can get a job at CRI as a heavy equipment operator.

They will be able to operate all types of surface service equipment as well as trucks. Matthew should be done by the end of June and William by the end of 2021. I have even started two new candidates since February. I would like to point out that we have no accidents or incidents to date. They are also very much appreciated by all their work colleagues''.

As of this year, Jobie Snowball has joined the training team. He is an Inuit instructor apprentice and is in development to become our first Inuit instructor. A coaching and training program is offered to him so that he can deliver training, do employee files, and help develop the Inuit workforce.  It is important to have a resource to help guide our Inuit employees in their learning process to facilitate integration. In his role, he transmits his knowledge by simplifying information and giving clear explanations on basic training, to ensure the integration of safe and environmentally friendly practices. He collaborates with the trainer in the preparation and planning of the training and enters data and statistics.
